Gymnastics, Swimming & Cross Country

Our Year 4-6 children will be taking part in 6 sessions of gymnastics in Spring Term
at the Axminster Gymnastics Centre, with their highly qualified coaches.

Our Year 4, 5 & 6s (Spring Term 2)
travel to Honiton Swimming Pool, for swimming sessions with a qualified instructor.

Cross Country Information

We have 4 cross country events throughout the year to which others schools are invited. A trial is held prior to  each race, to determine which children will qualify to run in the event. This usually takes place within 2 weeks of the run during school time. If your child is a reserve we may contact you on the day should a child in the team be unwell or unfit to run, otherwise the reserve children will not be needed.

There are 4 races, one for each of the following:
Yr 3-4 Girls
Yr 3-4 Boys
Yr 5-6 Girls
Yr 5-6 Boys

If your child comes home with a Cross Country slip, these must be completed and returned to the office at the stated time. Runners need to wear a full PE kit (a bib will be provided to be worn over their PE t-shirt.) Spikes are not permitted but studs or trainers are fine. The children are likely to get muddy so a carrier bag for clothing is encouraged!

All parents are actively encouraged to come and support these events whether their child is running or not. We could not hold the cross country without parent helpers providing marshals, catering help and making cakes for our PTFA cake stall, so please do offer your help.

School will close at 3.15pm for all children not running in the event. Runners will be supervised until the start of the event. The first race starts at 4pm and the competition should be completed soon after 5pm.

Cross Country Risk Assessment

Mr Murnane is also creating a sports fixtures programme with other Partnership schools, as well as building relationships with some of the private schools locally, to enable the children to take part in competitive matches, in a wide range of sports including; football, hockey, cricket and rounders. We teach the whole breadth of the PE curriculum without taking any time away from other curriculum areas which was highlighted as a development point in the 2020 Ofsted report.
